For more than thirty years, Josh's Farmers Market has been where Mooresville comes for just-picked produce, fresh small batch milk, and a friendly face at the register. Here's how a summer of homegrown cantaloupes grew into a seven-day-a-week tradition.
It started with a wheelbarrow full of cantaloupes.
In the summer of 1990, two brothers set up a tent along Williamson Road with nothing but a wheelbarrow full of cantaloupes they helped their grandpa grow. Word got around fast. The melons were sweet, the prices were fair, and the boys behind the stand remembered your name.
The tent became a car port shed. Before long, neighbors were asking whether they could get their tomatoes, sweet corn, and peaches there too. Josh's grew the way the best things do, one honest handshake at a time.
Today that roadside stand is a full, one-stop market on Joe V Knox Avenue: rows of fresh produce, a dairy case stocked with fresh small batch milk and local cheese, a seafood counter, a bakery, and a showroom of Amish- and Mennonite-crafted furniture. Same family. Same handshake. A whole lot more under the roof.

In a little over three decades, Josh's has grown from a roadside tent on the side of the road to a market that families across Mooresville plan their week around. Same family, same handshake, just a whole lot more room.
Where it all started
It began with a wheelbarrow full of cantaloupes the boys helped their grandpa grow, sold from a tent along Williamson Road. One good melon at a time, word got around.

Finally home
After nearly six years of uncertainty, we found ourselves back at the original place that took us in after we lost our family land, the YMCA. The result: a 70x130 barn-red building we can now call home, and the end of our traveling road show.
